Middle Egyptian (Egyptian hieroglyphs)
An online, rolling enrollment course in how to read and write Middle Egyptian hieroglyphs, taught by Dr. Tamara L. Siuda.

This course includes 16 lessons based on our required textbook (Hoch's Middle Egyptian Grammar) and is conducted via Moodle (with tutoring in email, Discord, Skype, etc. as necessary). Homework on average takes 1-3 hours per lesson, and you may work at your own pace. 

No previous knowledge of Egyptian language is required, though potential students are encouraged to review English terms of grammar, especially if you have never taken another language course. You are encouraged to practice drawing the hieroglyphic script for clear penmanship. (For assistance, I recommend Ancient Egyptian Calligraphy by H. Fischer.)

Middle Egyptian Texts & Literature
An online, rolling enrollment course in reading Middle Egyptian texts and literature, taught by Dr. Tamara L. Siuda. This course follows in the sequence beginning with Middle Egyptian (Hieroglyphs). Admission to this course will be provided after successful completion of Middle Egyptian (Hieroglyphs), or a waiver of that course with past relevant Middle Egyptian reading experience.

This course includes 15 lessons based on actual Middle Egyptian hieroglyphic texts that will be provided to you, and is conducted via Moodle (with tutoring in email, Discord, Skype, etc. as necessary). Homework on average takes 1-3 hours per lesson, and you may work at your own pace. Students in this course will be engaged in reading various ancient texts. Past students have read through texts including mythological documents like the Tale of the Two Brothers and the Contendings of Horus and Seth; religious texts including the Pyramid Texts, Coffin Texts, Book of the Dead, and various hymns and songs; monumental inscriptions, and personal letters and documents, all written in Middle Egyptian.

Ancient Egyptian (Kemetic) Wisdom
An online, rolling enrollment course on seboyet, or "wisdom texts," of Kemet (Ancient Egypt), and what they teach about life, philosophy, and our world, taught by Dr. Tamara L. Siuda

Sahidic Coptic Texts & Literature (Coptic III)
An online, rolling enrollment course in liturgical and literature texts in the Sahidic dialect of Coptic, taught by Dr. Tamara L. Siuda. This course follows from the end of the Sahidic Coptic (Coptic I and II) sequence. You will be admitted to this course after successful completion of Coptic I and II, or waiver of one or both courses, with relevant past Coptic experience.

This course includes 15 lessons using examples of Sahidic liturgical and literature texts that will be provided, and is conducted via Moodle (with tutoring in email, Discord, Skype, etc. as necessary). Homework on average takes 1-3 hours per lesson, and you may work at your own pace.

Intermediate Sahidic Coptic (Coptic II)
An online, rolling enrollment tutored course in how to read and write the Sahidic dialect of Coptic, taught by Dr. Tamara L. Siuda. This course follows from Beginning Sahidic Coptic (Coptic I) in the sequence. You will be admitted to this course after successful completion of Coptic I, or a waiver of Coptic I with relevant past Coptic experience.

This course includes 15 lessons based on our required textbook (Lambdin's Introduction to Sahidic Coptic) lessons 16-30, and is conducted via Moodle (with tutoring in email, Discord, Skype, etc. as necessary). Homework on average takes 1-3 hours per lesson, and you may work at your own pace. 

You will also receive access to audio files of the lessons (recorded by Dr. Tamara) so you can hear the language being spoken.

No previous knowledge of Coptic language is required, though potential students are encouraged to review English terms of grammar, especially if you have never taken another language course. Taking Middle Egyptian classes will aid in learning Coptic grammar, but is not necessary. You are encouraged to practice drawing Coptic script for clear penmanship.
